Just before a few hours, Microsoft has launched Windows 8.1 Preview – an upgrade of Windows 8 for the common users during BUILD conference 2013 that was held in San Francisco in the United States. Now the users can download 64-bit and 32-bit Windows 8.1 Preview in the form of ISO files to install Windows successfully. The current users of Windows 8 need a few mouse clicks to upgrade to Windows 8.1.
Although Microsoft issued a warning to the users that if they are upgrading their Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Preview, they have to install again all of the programs and applications they had previously installed from the Windows Store, still the users are upgrading to Windows 8.1.
If you are currently using Windows 8 and you want to upgrade it to Windows 8.1, it will be comparatively simple task for you. You just need to download the ISO file of Windows 8.1, make it run and reboot your system when you receive a message to do so. When you have done with the rebooting of your system, a notification will appear on the “Start” to visit the update page of Windows 8.1 to Windows Store. Finally, you need to select the option “Download” to start the downloading process for Windows 8.1 Preview.
Unluckily, the majority of the users who try to upgrade their Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, face some issues. One of them is a message they get while downloading, “The update is not applicable to your computer” that is the most common error. It mostly occurs when the users try to run the downloaded update of Standalone through the Preview website.
According to the statement of Microsoft, this error usually occurs when you select a base language quite different from the language used in Windows 8 setup. That means, Windows 8.1 Preview has full compatibility with French, Arabic, Japanese, English (US), German, Spanish, Korean Swedish, Turkish and Russian languages. If you have selected any other language, it will show incompatibility.
So, according to the suggestion of Microsoft, it is better for you to change the basic language and the users who have changed the basic language and then they try to install Windows 8.1 Preview, will automatically change the language constantly.
If you are using Windows 8 in any other language that is not supported, you need to download the ISO file of Windows 8 and then it will create no issue during installation. You will again face an error if you are upgrading the Enterprise edition of Windows 8 into Windows 8.1 Preview.
Steps to Fix “The Update is not Applicable to your Computer” Error
Step 1: First, you need to visit this page for downloading the update file and then click on the option “Get Update”. The users who have already downloaded it, need to skip step 1.
Step 2: Put the .MSU file to the root drive of Windows 8 as the majority of the people use the C drive for it. You need to change the name of .MSU file. You should be careful regarding its extension that should remain unchangeable. Now create a folder “8preview” in the C drive. For example, if you are using the C drive for Windows 8, the path for 8preview folder will be C:8preview.
Step 3: Now go to the Command Prompt from the admin account.
Step 4: Here you need to add the following command.
Expand –F:* c:preview.msu C:8preview
If you are using any other drive for Windows 8, you need to replace “C” with that drive.
Step 5: Now you need to add the command given below:
DISM.exe/Online /Ad-Package /PackagePath:c:8preview/Windows8-RT-KB2849636-x64.cab
The people running Windows 8’ x86 version need to replace x64 with x86.
Once you have done with it, a message “Restart Windows to complete this Operation?” will appear on your screen. You need to press “Y” key to give its consent.
You will see a notification “Get Windows 8.1 Preview for Free” on the screen once you restart your PC. When you visit the Windows Store, the text will not be clear, but when you have done with the upgrading process, it will work smoothly.
