Following the release of OS X 10.8.4, the third update has been released by Apple this Wednesday as the newest build prior to the upcoming OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion update.
The build number assigned to this latest update is 12F17 unveiling the fact this isn’t the first beta version to have been released for testing. In fact, ever since Apple released its build 12F13 a week ago four other versions of the beta have gone through testing.
As per the notes for OS X 10.8.5 release, there aren’t any issues with the update thus Apple has asked the developers to keep their focus on WI-Fi, Graphics, Wake, PDF Viewing and other such features. As mentioned earlier, code 12F17is the most recent and third release ever since Apple launched the first beta version of 10.8.5 in June.
Registered developers having active Mac Developer Program membership can get the build coded 12F17 either directly from Developer Portal from Apple or from Software Update. However, some developers have reported encountering issues locating the exact build.
On one side Apple is vigorously working on Mountain Lion while on another front developers are also requested to test the upcoming and much in talks, OS X 10.9 Mavericks to which another developer preview has been released towards the end of June which happened to be the week of WWDC. Since Mavericks release time is expected to be this fall, news has it OS X 10.8.5 might as well be the last major update to Mountain Lion.
